Two of the leading South African youth adventure operators are joining forces in a move to merge their brands under one corporate roof. Rock the Route CC and Van Schoor’s Tours (Pty) Ltd./ Pangea Trails have today announced the merger and migration of Pangea Trails brand into the Rock the Route CC corporate family. Directors and partners Kim Kritzinger, Heinie Bosman and Alexander Wittig are excited to grow their team and portfolio in the Youth and Student Travel sector of Southern Africa with exciting new tours and experiences.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alex and Pangea Trails into the Rock the Route family at such an exciting time of growth and diversification” said Founder Heinie Bosman. “Just before high season coming up now, Pangea Trails will bring its products to the table just at the right time. This will allow our brands to expand and grow organically, as we continue to challenge the nature of the travel industry in Southern Africa with sustainability, backroad adventure flair and just that little bit of extra secret knowledge of our destinations. We believe that to truly experience any country, you need to get off the beaten track and get to know the locals. Immerse yourself in the local cultures, old and new. Listen to live local music. Be adventurous. And that is exactly what we do”.

“We started out with owner-run tours between Cape Town and the Garden Route – now, after merging with Pangea Trails in 2018, we offer something for every kind of adventure traveler, all over Southern Africa. Our Rock the Route tours are shorter road trips and day trips in the Western Cape, and our Pangea Trails overland tours run throughout the rest of SA and neighboring countries”, says Kim Kritzinger, partner and business operations director.

Pangea Trails and Alex Wittig bring 15 years of adventure travel experience around Southern Africa from his previous roles at Van Schoor’s Tours (Pty) Ltd., where he focused on business development and partnership development in Europe, local operations and a closer corporation network development between international youth travel associations.

“It is nothing short of an honour to be joining a growing company with as much rock n roll travel flair and passion as Rock the Route,” says Alex Wittig. “Both brands derived from a strong passion for travel and sharing it with other young people from the around the globe. The essence of realising that we are all the same despite different cultures, religions and beliefs and struggle with the same day to day issues in a young person’s life to find her/ his place is the cornerstone of what we do. Traveling makes us better human beings and being part of a process to facilitate this is an honour and a privilege in today’s world. I look forward to bringing my global travel background to a rapidly expanding sector of the industry, experiential travel, which is undoubtedly taking the market by storm and changing the way we travel.”

In addition to the merger of those two leading adventure travel brands, Rock the Route will be introducing its highly anticipated “Craft Collective” grassroot project development in Knysna to its existing portfolio as well as a range of newly designed day tours. Working closely with each partner on the ground, the company will continue to explore new ways to expand on guest offerings and push the boundaries on unique community development models. Dedicated to connecting guests with locals, community, and with themselves, the introduction of the new “Craft Collective” and guest experiences firmly establishes Rock the Route as a leader and disruptor in the experiential travel space.

Rock the Route CC currently operates in South Africa, iSwatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
